I just don't know how you do this effect with the g. Does it work with the jam man stereo ?

FYI.there's a pedal called "freeze" by electro harmonix which does that trick - plays (and decays) a split second recording. Leaves your looper free for other loops.

Pink Floyd do a bit of this as well.. Have a listen to the start of 'coming back to life', for instance. Great intro.

How would I learn all of those chords to alter them and play them with two strings like you're doing ?
Glenn Michael Thompson

Those 10ths you play are a sweet way to give the harmony some motion without cluttering it up with full chords. For anyone who doesn't have a looper, you can get very similar effects with an Electro Harmonics Freeze pedal ($99). Thanks for the video. I've played in a worship group for several years, as well as being hired by many gospel groups & choirs over the years. God bless.

+Glenn Michael Thompson Whoa, I meant no sarcasm. I was actually trying to say thank you. I actually haven't heard these intervals played like this (or at least in isolation/broken down). I bookmarked the video to come back to it and commented on your comment to say thanks and be able to find this later. Playing 10ths is a great way to remember playing the root and the 3rd above the octave. Hillsong has a bunch of two note interval stuff: - 5th and the 10th for chords rooted on the A string (which is the 'A' form of the chord) - 1st and the 5th for chords rooted on the E string (which is the 'E' form of the chord) This is cool because your licks stay on the D and B strings. Also the 1st and 5h played in the E form are pentatonic-ish power chords where the 5th and the 10th follow the major/minor tonality of the chord. This video shows the 1st and the 10th which is a more stretched chord and the way it blends with the padding could mimic layered guitar parts. This is very cool and hopefully something I can incorporate next time I am the only electric guitar covering a hillsong piece with 8 guitar tracks. :) I love the math of music and its how I play. Without a guitar in front of me I would be hard pressed to tell you the tonality or intervals he played. I get lost with all the layered delay. I love Jazz and appreciate any numeric/ jazz notation/lingo. So playing a G7 in 3/4 time padded in a loosely timed loop while playing 10th intervals over the tonic(G), lydian/4th(C) and so on is how I make sense of music. I understand not everyone thinks like this but I truly appreciate others who do and share their knowledge. Picking out the intervals by ear is not a talent of mine especially when I am at work with no guitar. :) So thank you for sharing the interval and the pedal info, I look forward to checking it out based on your recommendation. I hope this wordy response conveys my sincerest apology for the confusion. If you have any other videos that talk more in 'math mode' please do share. Again, sincerest apologies and thank you for sharing. -Josh

+Josh McCall Then don't fucking read it. So... I could hear the SIMPLE intervals he was playing, there's nothing to figure out! It's a label for a very recognizable sound in music. Would you tell an artist/painter not to mention a shade of blue or green they're using or particularly fond of. Why do you even care what I say? If you're a musician that makes you even more ignorant. Let's say you're asked to play a G7 in 3/4 time... what should one ask you? Maybe that thing you do with your fingers?! And maybe you could try to keep in time ? Not a typical radio kinda' time though, it's a little shorter!!!? WTF Josh? All music is based on math! Yes even music with heart & soul, feelings etc. And particularly music with a beat! FM
