Cao Nguyen Le these top universities recruit many Asian students who have more academic ability than american students. So the bad public education system deprive our kids to enter the top universities.

because in china, good students stay in public school system, bad students go to privite school system..and usa good students stay in privite school , bad students in public school systems.

Chinese are the people who are very respect education for over 2000 years:
Confucius quotes:
1."In a party of three there must be one from whom I may seek instruction. I will pick his merits to emulate them, and find his demerits to amend mine."
2. "Isn’t it a pleasure to learn and constantly practice what is learnt?"
3. "When you know a thing, say that you know it;
when you don't know a thing, say that you don't know it. It is wise doing so."
4. "Learning without thinking leads to puzzlement; thinking without learning is perilous.”
5."Review what has been learned to learn what is new, and you can be a teacher."
6."Study without satiety and teach without weariness.".

America dominates areas where money prevails. Apple, Dupont, Dell, NASDAQ, Wall Street etc. Put money into teaching the way you have the other sectors that America dominates and you will see America Dominating academically. We have stopped valuing our bread and butter. Thats' all it is.

Americans not only are like the lowest academic of white countries but are practically sub-human if you compare them to east Asian scores. Funny how Americans always call the east Asians stupid and say that the USA is the best country in the world. Fucking jokes.
You have the highest incarceration rate. One of the lowest academic levels of the developed world and also like the highest or second highest rate of obesity and also crazy unemployment problems.
Your country if fucking shit if you look at any statistic.

my daughter went to nursery school and kindergarten in Beijing China and went to elementary school in Minnesota. she learned addition in age 4 and subtraction(inside 100) in age 5 in Beijing. while in her first term of 1st grade she only learned count from 1 to 12. no addition or subtraction. now she is in 4th grade and still can not finish division correctly which is done in 1st grade in China. I can not believe how they teach math this way.

Education choice should be the concern, not school choice!!!
That will not change until virtual learning supports learners instead of teachers.
We need teachers to focus on the needs of students, not teachers.
Education is learning, not teaching!!!! We need teachers to understand that and focus on helping needy students.
Teachers should train students to be self sufficient and not dependent on teachers!! Give students the aid they need to help that happen!!!
FlashToso - Πριν 5 χρόνια
The focus of the union is the problem!!!! Other professionals support their product, Our teachers support the system and their worker concerns, not education and the learners (their product and customers).
I know of teachers frustrated with their unions!!! ENOUGH SAID!!!!

We are the great consumer supporting other economies. Look at the balance of trade from the past half century. That trend cannot continue.
Look at where products are made!!! That is the PROOF!!!

Are these 8th grade rankings? That is the only cross country comparisons I ever see!!!
I have yet to find one for U.S. Graduates. I have found U.S. 2 years behind the Europeans since 1975. Why are we focused only on teachers with so much Info tech available? Lets improve online learning and let the teachers focus on students needing help and applying student knowledge.
Even using videos would help. Education is learning, not teaching. Learning should be the focus!!!

Check Finland for a human school system. Where the students doesn't need to have extra classes outside of school.
The union isn't a problem, the system is at fault. In Finland every teacher have joined the union (of course there are a few non union). What is needed is well educated teachers that collaborate to teach the students. That the students should be finished when leaving school, all homework done in school. And all schools should have same resourses, and extra to schools in problem area

uechiblu3000 - Πριν 6 χρόνια
Too bad this isn't true for all schools. Some get you in by any means necessary get the money and then to hell with the results.
The good thing is, you don't have to go to school for everything, and books can be purchased so that a person can teach themselves (which is usually what is done in some schools anyway). A lot of jobs seek someone with either experience, or skill regardless of if they have a degree or not... that spares potential debt.
uechiblu3000 - Πριν 6 χρόνια
There are individuals with the will to make a change, but there is a lot of opposition, especially if the person is in the person is in the position of power. If they make money screwing someone over, they wouldn't want them to progress, they'd prefer that they remain in the same spot serving a purpose that makes them money. Its not everyone (obviously) but it hinders.

ORLY? "The Polytechnic University of Puerto Rico was highly recommended and considered the 'Harvard of the Caribbean' by our colleagues at the Pentagon and the Department of Defense of the United States, said Jerry Harris, president and CEO of Cirrus Technology, Inc." I studied Mechanical Engineering there, quit after 3 years and I have an Engineering Career in the aerospace industry in SoCal. And for the record there's more local students in colleges in PR than any other state. I did research.

fffffffffffffffffff, I'm in college and I haven't even TOUCHED those subjects in school. :/ Physics I may later on tho, lol. My father kept alot of books where they taught you that in grade school and on so I learned more from him than the school in those kinds of things. xD
He was always there to fill in those knowledge gaps where school did not. But still, if you stay and listen (5-10% is all you may need per class) you will do well. You still learn alot in school, so stay in school kids! :3

@EPSWhiz I work in a school and cannot agree with you more. We have to remember that the majority of teachers in public schools have never seen the real world. These people graduate HS, go to college where they intern in schools. After they leave college they then get a job IN A SCHOOL. They have no idea how the real world works and how good they have it. Don't even get me started on teacher unions.

Finland is successful in education because they have a small population, hardly all the students come from the same culture, religion, and race, and lastly their only are chosen to work if they came in the top 10% of their class in college.
Chinese are listed by city because they have big populations and are they have different education systems in each region.
All of them go to school more then us Americans do.
Cougman1978 - Πριν 7 χρόνια
Rich countries have many toys for their children to play than book. For example: children play video game and many other toys, they rush their homework last moment. That's why! But I can't force them to do homework first or law in america will file me as children abuse.

@alexcrixus thanks for your response. I need your help! i have a nephew who is about my son's age and born in china (living in chian, 13 years old). he is doing very well in school and i think he is a very good kid but he never express his feeling in public not even to his own uncle. I can feel my nephew is not happy at all because he always has tons of homework need be done and no time for sports at all. Can you please tell me how you teach your kids to have self confident and be happy?
ghost - Πριν 7 χρόνια
I also have been to China and trust me, a lot of Chinese kids are not short at all. They are actually tall But they need to play more sport, to be more socially confident, to be more out-going and know how to speak out , not being afraid of expressing their dreams and feelings!
Pokerman - Πριν 7 χρόνια
@alexcrixus i am chinese. i have to agree you. most of chinese parents only concentrate on School study but they ignore their kids also need a health body. Chinese kids wearing glassess ratio is much higher than American kids. American kids are also taller and stronger than chinese kids. American kids are doing much better on sports than chinese kids. without a health physical condition, i don't care how smart they are; their future won't be bright! how many people can run with only one leg?
